Yoga Classes & Events

Yoga is a practice that takes place both on and off the yoga mat. 

The physical practice of yoga is essential as we develop strength, flexibility, and balance in our bodies and a more peaceful state of mind.  We focus on these aspects by learning yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques in our classes in the yoga studio.  We learn proper form and alignment and to focus on our breath and develop concentration.  We practice 'meditation in motion' and bring intention to our practice as we flow through the poses.  We derive our practice from the highly refined systems of hatha, vinayasa, restorative and partner yoga.  In this way, we move towards greater physical, mental and emotional health and emerge with new found energy to re-connect with the world around us as we take our practice 'off the mat'.

Private or Private Group Instruction Also Available - If you don't have time to make it to a class or have special needs or interests, a private session can have immense benefits.   Bridal showers, baby showers, or other group events can also be very meaningful and loads of fun!  Contact Astrid for more information.

Practicing yoga in nature, during longer retreats or at special events provide us with opportunities to dive deeper into an experience of connection - with ourselves, with others, with the Earth and with a shared, universal consciousness.  Feeling that this deep connection exists, we also apply principles found in yoga philosophy into our activity in the world.  As such we dedicate our yoga practice to actions that benefit the world around us to create a world of sustained peace for all.

Outdoor Hatha Yoga - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 - 9:00 am at Firelight Camps (Ithaca's only Glampground!)
Experience the unique opportunity to practice yoga outside, linking breath, movement and asana flows with fresh air and the sounds of nature.  A truly invigorating way to start the day! All levels welcome (even absolute beginners).  Wear comfortable, flexible clothing; optional to bring a water bottle and your yoga mat - we do have some mats for you to use if you forgot yours!  Please note these classes will be available every morning, led by various local teachers, under the auspices of Heart Thread Yoga.   Firelight Camps is located at 1150 Danby Rd, Ithaca NY (behind LaTourelle)

Hatha Yoga Slow Flow - Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11 am at Fine Spirit Studio
An all-levels class for people of all ages and experience levels.  This is a well rounded yoga class that begins with centering and attention to the breath.  The class then proceeds into gentle warm up stretches to loosen the joints and warm up the body before moving into a series of flowing postures including sun salutations and other chosen poses tailored to the level of those in the room.  Instruction of poses will be given as necessary.  Attention is given throughout to mindful breathing and careful alignment.  Classes may also incorporate some philosophical teachings and more subtle practices involving mudras or bandhas, for example.  All classes end with restorative poses and a blissful savasana/relaxation pose.    There is no need to sign up ahead of time for this class.  Simply drop in at the studio by showing up to class at least 10 minutes early to register.  Payment can be cash, check or credit card.  Drop in rates and class passes are available.  Please visit the Fine Spirit Studio website for more information.

Community Yoga - Vinyasa Flow - Sundays 8:30-9:30 at Mighty Yoga
Taught at a pace slower than other Mighty Yoga classes, these classes can be a great way to develop your vinyasa yoga practice as well as refine the fundamentals.  Variations and modifications for poses will be offered, making this class accessible to all levels.  Classes are $7.

108 Sun Salutations Benefit for Cayuga Lake

at the First Annual Ithaca Reggae Festival
Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at Stewart Park in Ithaca, NY - 10-11:30am

108 Sun Salutations in a row!  Water is Life! Test your endurance and offer your practice up for a good cause.  This year's Sun Salutations will be part of a community-wide day of celebration and education about Cayuga Lake.  The Sun Salutations will be accompanied by music and be followed by many activities taking place on the water or in the park including several local and legendary reggae bands!  Organized by our partner Yoga for the Earth project. 
Tickets/Contributions are $10 in advance, $15 the day of the event and include entrance to the Reggae Festival.


Yoga Eco-Hikes

Thursdays 9:30-12:30 at Upper Buttermilk State Park, beginning June 15th
Yoga combined with Nature Therapy!  Learn a bit about the history and ecology of this hidden park, tune your breath into the trees, give yourself a good stretch and practice exercises for renewable energy as Astrid leads you on a walk through upper Buttermilk State Park.   This is a fantastic way to explore an iconic area of the Finger Lakes while achieving a bit of physical and mental fitness.   Yoga will be adjusted to the experience level of those in the group.
